A statement from the channel indicates that it decided to cancel the telenovela because its audience preferred limited series over long-running series.
“Our viewership surveys guide us to adapt our content to the evolving needs of our customers. Whilst Legacy is a popular show, our M-net 101 customers have indicated that they now want more limited series rather than long-running telenovelas. The success of our local strategy depends on how well we tune into what our customers would like to see on their screens,” says Nomsa Philiso, Executive Head : Programming, Multichoice Group.
Below are some of the responses on Twitter.
“Phil , are we ready to talk about how Tshedza shows need new writing teams? Ph*thu and Gw*dion need to allow new writers with fresh ideas just like they allowed Chris Q to write Gomora, they can remain as Executive producers. The River is going to follow , it’s become boring.”
” Not that it is not good. Legacy is good.. pity it was not being viewed by many due to it being on Mnet. “
” Fact is most of SA series or Soapies are boring.
Most of these Soapies if they were in other countries will not get Past Season 1 even 9 episodes.
The Queen each season has 355 episodes of boredom.
