Rhythm City’s Actress Mapule Reveals That She Suffering From Depression And Eating Disorders
Mapula Mafole whose been playing the role of Mapule on Rhythm City for half a decade has admitted that she has an eating disorder and suffers from depression. The beautiful actress, who rains from North West province shares a birthday with the late Nelson Mandela and holds an AFDA degree. She graduated in 2013.
The actress says she got depressed for the first time when both her parents left her and her siblings for the United Kingdom for work-related purposes. The whole family had just relocated from North West to Tshwane and were left under the care of their older sister; Tebogo. Her older sister; Tebogo is married to the popular South African musician DJ Christos.
The 30-year-old actress says the absence of her parents when she was growing up deeply affected her. She struggled with the new environment and the change in schools. She felt lonely and isolated because she had to make new friends in Pretoria which was completely different from North West province.
She started feeling anxious, bottled up all her emotions and thoughts, which led to her depression. She withdrew from everyone by sleeping and crying limitlessly in her locked bedroom and would miss her meals.
She then went to seek professional help at thirteen years when she went to the school psychologist. She began therapy with the psychologist and regained her self-esteem and confidence. When she graduated from high school, she realized her passion for acting and pursued a career in acting at AFDA.
She got her big break at Rhythm City two years after graduating and is still an advocate for mental health. She admits that depression and mental illness can be caused by absolutely anything as she had a few setbacks and still sees a psychologist now and then. The actress still has moments from when she struggles with anxiety and depression today.
