The nation mourns the death of a national star who passed away on her late husband’s birthday, yesterday July 4th, at the age of 80. Expert actress Mary Twala won the hearts of many when she enhanced our television screens for more than 60 years. Mary played different roles, earning her title as one of the best actresses this country has ever seen.

Remembering and honoring the renowned actress who had an rice and a assorted career, here are her most memorable moments in entertainment:

She set the standard very high for the country’s local entertainment scene when she featured in a number of productions including the first season of Generations, Soul Buddyz, Taxi To Soweto, Child Of Soweto, Yizo-Yizo, Muvhango, State of Violence and who can forget the chilling series that gave many nightmares at night; Ubizo: The Calling.

The international entertainment world also had a taste of Mary Twala’s talent and charm when she featured in numerous international films such as Sarafina!  Mapantsula and Ghost Son, to name but a few.

Last year in April 25, Mary receive the Order Of IkhamangaSilver, for her massive contribution to the performing arts and entertainment industry. The order of Ikhamanga also recognized the star for her unyielding work in raising awareness of women’s health. The award was given to her by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the 2019.

Mary walked away with a Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy in 2015 for her role in the hilrarious SABC 2 series Skwiza’s In the year 2011, Mary was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role as “Ma Dolly” in the South African film Hopeville.

The last time Mzansi probably saw the legend on television was at her son’s wedding which aired on showmax. She warmed the hearts of many when she gave her only son her blessings at the wedding of the century.The teary moment they shared together touched the hearts of Mzansi.
